...another water-related fund-raising project known as the UNICEF Tap Project kicks off here in Chicago next week, which has been officially designated World Water Week.

The Tap Project started last year in New York City, where more than 300 restaurants joined in a campaign to raise money for clean drinking water for children around the world. This year, the project is expanding to other cities nationwide, including Chicago.

Tangible Worldwide/Chicago was tapped to design the poster art to support the Chicago arm of the project and then execute a guerrilla street campaign locally, which involves distributing fliers and posters to draw attention to the Tap Project. Tangible's sister agency, Lakonic Partners, worked in conjunction with Energy BBDO/Chicago on the interactive component for the Tap Project/Chicago. That includes a micro-site at www.tapproject.org/chicago.

The weeklong Tap Project effort will culminate March 22, when about 300 Chicago restaurants will ask patrons to pay $1 for the privilege of drinking tap water. Funds raised will go toward providing kids in need with fresh drinking water.

An ever-grander holiday

Crain's Business News, Chicago, IL, 12/17/07

Merrick PressExcerpt: (Read full article)
A good sales year, a visit from a relative and a personal goal have created a perfect storm of seasonal outdoing for Merrick (that's his only name), principal at Lakonic Partners Inc., a Chicago-based interactive marketing company.

Lakonic doubled its revenues this year and in January will add a new division, a lifestyle agency called Tangible Worldwide. To celebrate, Merrick plans to give his 15 employees bonuses, averaging thousands of dollars each. He's closing Lakonic's office from Friday to Jan. 4 and is hosting a huge holiday party, starting with Whirlyball and laser tag and ending with beer, snacks and a rollicking round of "Rock Band," a video game version of air guitar, at his Wicker Park home. "Last year," Merrick says, "we went to Rock Bottom (Restaurant & Brewery) and had a beer."

Despite a two-week visit from his mother, who cooks calorie-filled Midwest holiday dishes, the ambitious Merrick also plans to diet in December to get a jump on resolution season. His goal: to lose weight to begin amateur boxing in March. "When everybody's looking (at gaining) 20 pounds, I'll be looking to lose 20 pounds," he says.

(Note: Lakonic actually quintupled revenue, not doubled)
